IT'S TIME TO VOTE!
There isn’t a major presidential election this November, and because of that, many have probably not thought about voting at all these past months. There are, however, school board elections. Residents may have skipped these in the past because they didn’t know the candidates, or don’t feel like they have a stake in the election.
It is my opinion that this might be the MOST important board election for all of the towns along the corridor. The laws that are being passed by the state legislature surrounding gender, sports and the rights of our students will be issues with which these potential candidates will have to grapple. Most recently, Title IX additions will include “proposed rules that are slated to be issued in May 2023 will not directly address athletics but will make clear that the law prohibits schools from excluding students from activities, which would include school sports and other activities, because they are transgender or intersex,” according to the Department of Education.
This proposal, along with an increase in liberal policies surrounding “progressive” curricula and literature being presented to our students should give us all cause for concern. School board members are part of the decisions that can both introduce AND prohibit these issues to our local districts.
It is important to make sure that parents know what future board members think about:

In addition, school board members along the Corridor will need to deal with the large amount of vacancies in teaching positions in the individual districts. A closer look at the job openings in Strasburg alone is alarming. The Board will have to solve the issues of attracting, and retaining educators by addressing salary, budget and benefits.
That’s where we come in. This month’s Public Ed article is focused solely on the race for individual school boards in towns along the Corridor. Election Day for these important positions is Tuesday, November 7th.
Ballots will be sent out in the mail and you should receive it by October 16th. You can also vote in person starting October 30th at the locations below:

Getting involved locally:
There are many different ways that citizens can get involved in the educational process. Schools are asking for participation in many different ways. The schools along the corridor have made school board meetings readily available for the public to watch and participate in. Together, we can contribute time and attention to our young people. Below is a list of opportunities:
-Attend a board meeting (virtual): Bennett, Strasburg, Byers, Deer Trail
