Throughout the year we often find ourselves occupied with tasks or problems that we forget to think about things that matter. This month our character of focus is a thankful heart. To keep this we have to stop focusing on the problem and think about what is good. In this lesson, you and your family will have the opportunity to slow down to discuss why you are thankful.
I have had the opportunity to go on mission trips to the beautiful country of Honduras. When you get off the plane everything's so green and tropical looking. The people are kind and willing to share whatever they have to make you feel welcome. However, as you visit the communities and walk with the children you see the hunger, lack of clean water, and a safe environment. Every time I left, I walked away with a greater appreciation of all the things we have in the USA but also wondered how I could problem-solve with the people of Honduras to help. In this lesson, you will look at some of the problems and as a family discuss what you are thankful for but also what could the Honduran people try to fix some of their problems.
As you look through the pictures and descriptions print off the" I am Thankful for" page and write things you are thankful you have. Older students can problem solve and write ideas they would share to help Hondurans. For Kindergarten students, you can draw and share your ideas. -AMW

Our favorite bear family prepares for a big storm. Brother and Sister are scared, but Mama and Papa remind them how safe and loved they are — a reminder for all of us to count our blessings. (Early Elementary)

There's a lot going on today. It is sometimes shocking the amount of major events that continue to occur week after week. As educators, if we are not informed about current events and the history behind them our students will be unaware or possibly be misinformed. We see a generation of college students who are willing to stand for what they believe. Great, but sadly when you listen to their reasoning it is a whirlwind of confusion. They state information that is he said, she said, I heard, I think but nothing factual. To avoid this cycle, below you will find resources to share and discuss with your students about the current war between Israel and Hamas. It can seem like a touchy topic but if we do not inform our students with facts they could become the next generation that screams and shouts for a change that could destroy the lives of many.
In this video 3rd through 5th grade students will travel to 1979 to meet Prime Minister of Israel Menachem Begin and President of Egypt Anwar Sadat—two leaders who worked together despite hostilities to forge a treaty of peace. Your students will learn that by setting aside old rivalries, peace and cooperation are indeed possible.

PragerU’s Around the World magazines explore topics such as communism, energy needs, and freedom of speech in an age-appropriate manner, and give middle and high school students a new appreciation for what makes America so unique. In Shira Prays for Peace, students will read about an Israeli girl who will have to serve in the military to defend her country. Although she is proud to stand for her flourishing country she also prays for the day when it will no longer be necessary. Students can also watch the video.
|
PragerU also shares news and food for thought for college students by college students. Their vision is to promote American values through the use of educational videos. Prager University Foundation offers a free alternative to the dominant left-wing ideology in culture, media, and education for all ages.
