I don’t know about you, but I am truly tired of watching the House Republicans fail to come together and elect a Speaker of the House. I truly believe in democracy and everyone being able to vote their choice, but delaying the function of establishing a budget for the government and blocking aid to Israel in their time of crisis is bordering on foolishness.
Jim Jordan just lost the third vote for Speaker of the House as I was writing this article. It seems that 25 republicans just can’t get over their personal issues in order to get to what they were elected to do.

We have to hope and pray that it doesn’t take 15 votes and 15 more days to show some willingness to compromise and present a unified presence in the House. By that time, we would have a government shutdown and have left Israel to the wolves. Meanwhile, the Democrats, who all go to “unification classes” and now speak the same, think the same, vote the same and hate Trump the same, sit and watch the republicans fight amongst themselves.
Why? Why? Why?
Perhaps the first mistake was when McCarthy, in order to get elected after 14 nay votes, agreed to restore a longstanding rule for ousting a sitting speaker by one member to force a recall vote at any time. What kind of concession is that? The odds of getting removed are like the odds of getting stung sticking your hand in a wasp nest. Obviously, he wasn’t going to last.
The next big mistake was voting McCarthy out without having a plan of “who takes his place?” This kind of decision making is just as bad as the Democrats. Is there something about the water in the Capital that causes people to just act on emotions without considering the consequences? |
Now after 9 months, the Republicans are again without a Speaker of the House. Personally, as a Conservative, I am embarrassed. I hear Republicans saying “I think it’s an embarrassment to our country. It’s an embarrassment to my party that they can’t seek and find some sort of consensus,” the Republican Governor of Utah said during a news conference. Not everyone in the party has purposed to “have it your way.” Forty-five Republicans wrote a letter to the GOP legislature stating, "The injustice we all witnessed cannot go unaddressed — lest we bear responsibility for the consequences that follow. Our Conference must address fundamental changes to the structure of our majority to ensure success for the American people." You can read the full letter and see the Republican representatives who signed it here.
I wanted to know why some GOP congressmen voted against Jim Jordan and was surprised that demanding he confess that Trump lost the election in 2020 was the most important point. Are you kidding me?? The House is held up because someone has a different prospective on an election that took place nearly four years ago! Who cares! You have work to do now! Or maybe it is just because Jordan is an ally of Trump???

Some of the GOP fear Jordan because he wants to cut spending. Sounds good to me, but then they throw in Medicare and the military and no one wants to touch that. But the problem is that they still all have to vote on any spending cuts. You are not electing a dictator, just a facilitator.
Maybe the most concerning is that 18 of those Republicans who refused to support Jordan were elected from districts that Pres. Biden won in the last election. Another words, they are worried about retaining their jobs. “Spoiler Alert.” You may lose your job anyway if you don’t hurry up and get something done. You were elected by hard-working taxpayers who want to see some action and interest in their concerns: gas prices, food prices, government spending, ridiculous “green” policies, education reform, illegal immigration, loss of personal freedoms, and on and on.
I thought that as Conservatives we were more apt to be Christians or at least have some Christian values. I am reminded of the scripture in James 1:1-2.

What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from
the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you
scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you
can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you
don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. (NLT)

Maybe instead of arguing, cussing, back stabbing, and arm twisting there should be a prayer meeting. Maybe then we could see which ones are willing to get on their knees and seek God’s guidance and direction. What a day that would be! But until then….

ADDENDUM: Well, they finally did it and with 100% agreement! Wonder why they couldn’t do that in the beginning? Now it is time to see if they can work together to accomplish something.
