Biden Administration’s Military Strength
Biden’s strength on foreign policy has always been in contention. He led the Senate in 1975 to abandon South Vietnam, which led to the overrun of Saigon and the genocide in Cambodia. He opposed the Reagan Doctrine for being too confrontational with Russia two weeks before Reagan’s speech to Gorbachev resulted in the fall of the wall. In 1991, Biden voted against the Gulf War to force Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. Then in 2010, he enforced the removal of U.S. troops from Iraq which resulted in the take over by ISIS. He opposed the raid that killed Osama bin Laden and mocked Republican leaders who warned of the threat of Putin, who was hosting leaders of Hamas.
In 2014, former Defense Secretary Robert Gates infamously said this about Joe Biden-- "I think he has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades." Knowing this we can hardly be surprised at the foreign policies of this administration and the resulting consequences. We appear weak, fearful, incompetent, and out of touch with reality causing our enemies to become emboldened.

Afghanistan Travesty
The first major debacle was the retreat from Afghanistan. The botched Afghanistan withdrawal left over $7 billion worth of taxpayer-funded equipment, munitions, and military assets in the hands of the Taliban. Under his failed leadership, U.S. servicemen were sought out and killed by terrorist suicide bombers.
One such bomber was being tracked by intelligence assets as he had just been released from Parwan prison days prior and was enroute to the airport. According to Vargas-Andrews, on the morning of Aug. 26, he received an imminent threat warning with a description of both the bomber and his handler. Shortly after noon, Vargas-Andrews and Sgt. Charles Schilling spotted the two and requested permission to take them out. Unfortunately, their leadership could not authorize the engagement. Four hours later, the terrorist detonated his device, killing 13 U.S. servicemembers and severely wounding Sgt. Vargas-Andrews.
Afghans fell from the skies as they desperately tried to board overcrowded aircraft. Afghan families, many who welcomed our servicemembers and were instrumental in aiding our military, were left forgotten. Thousands of U.S. citizens and personnel were deserted by their own President.
After the withdrawal, President Biden remarked that the mission was an “extraordinary success,” underscoring the President’s lack of foresight and his inability to put American lives first.

Ukraine
Biden’s administration has already sent $113 billion in cash and high-tech weaponry, and the President is trying to strongarm Congress into approving another $67 billion and yet, Biden has no plan on how to end this war. Ukraine has no military path and Biden just says “as long as it takes.” What does that mean? A forever war? The US president has had ample time to act and even rejected a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in March 2022 that would have ended the conflict based on Ukrainian neutrality.
Ukraine, the largest country on the continent, is being depopulated, with casualties approaching a quarter of a million dead or severely wounded, and millions of citizens displaced. Russia has in fact won the war already by keeping Ukraine out of NATO. As long as Ukraine forces are locked in battle and Kiev does not control all of Ukraine land, they cannot meet admission requirements. |
Chinese Balloon Fiasco
Despite the administration’s claims to the contrary, it is now clear that U.S. satellites and ground-based radar tracked the Chinese balloon from the time it was launched from China through its entry into Northern American Aerospace Command (NORAD) airspace. Gen. Glenn VanHerck, the NORAD commander, testified that when his Alaska-based radars detected the balloon, he scrambled fighters to identify it. The pilots confirmed it was a balloon carrying a massive sensor package. After the balloon passed through uninhabited northern Canadian territory it re-entered U.S. airspace where the balloon collected and transmitted signals intelligence, likely targeting grade images and coordinates on everything from our ICBM silos to the B-2 stealth bomber facilities at Whiteman Air Force Base.
The White House could have shot down the balloon over Alaska or North Canada where the only thing that could be hurt was caribou, but decided to wait until it crossed the whole country gathering information.

The Middle East
Some credit has to be given to the Biden Administration for a quick response to support Israel after the horrendous attack on the Israeli people by the terrorist group, Hamas. Biden ordered the largest show of force in support of Israel since 1973, sending two aircraft carrier strike groups to the region and telling Iran, who supports Hamas, “Don’t do it!” which fell on deaf ears. We will see if the Biden support will continue because of the far left’s support of Hamas and the Palestinians.
Unfortunately, Biden’s efforts failed, as the fighting has spread from Gaza to the Red Sea, Yemen, Iraq and Syria, with American troops coming under attack in the latter two countries. Moreover, Iran is clearly undeterred, saying “We are not afraid of you!” The U.S. policy of deterrence against Iran has failed miserably. There have been over 170 attacks against U.S. forces in the region resulting in 186 troops injured or killed. |
China's Plan for Taiwan
China now has the largest navy in the world and although it lags behind in the U.S. in other military powers, they are focusing their interest around Taiwan and the waters around it. We can be sure that China has interest in Taiwan just as Putin has in the Ukraine. China has tested Biden’s resolve with other issues such as the notorious spy balloon, Tiktok influence, and interest in buying up American land. It will be interesting to see how Biden’s administration will respond to these incursions based on the family’s relationship with China.
Biden has admitted he intends to ship more arms to Taiwan despite China’s strident objections that the U.S. is thereby violating long-standing U.S. commitments to the One-China policy, including the commitment made 42 years ago in the U.S.-PRC Joint Communique that the U.S. government “does not seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan.”

The "MIC" Control
Most of us are not familiar with this acronym. I had to look it up and was surprised that there were two different meanings, both could apply to Biden’s military program. One was a microbiology term for Minimum Inhibitory Concentration and another for Military Industrial Complex. I particularly like the microbiological term suggesting the “minimal amount of substance to inhibit growth of bacteria.” I would describe Biden’s response to attacks on U.S. military as minimal, but what is the true MIC?
MIC is a network of individuals and institutions involved in the production of weapons and military technologies. They marshal political support for continued or increased military spending. The statistics are stunning. This year’s proposed budget for the Pentagon and nuclear weapons work at the Department of Energy is $886 billion which is more than twice as much, adjusted for inflation, as in 1961 when Eisenhower warned that the United States must “guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence…by the military-industrial complex."

The work of the MIC is also referred to as the “iron triangle” which shows the relationship between government officials, legislators and military-industrial firms. Military contractors such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman lobby and send money to members of Congress (or the President’s campaign), who then provide tax funding for projects recommended by MIC, then the Department of Defense awards tax funded contracts to the MIC.
Biden’s 2024 military budget breaks all records, reaching at least $1.5 trillion in outlays for the Pentagon, CIA, homeland security, non-Pentagon nuclear arms programs, subsidized foreign weapons sales, other military-linked outlays, and interest payments on past war-related debts. On top of this mountain of military spending, Biden is seeking an additional $50 billion in “emergency supplemental funding” for America’s “defense industrial base” to keep shipping munitions to Ukraine and Israel. More and more money, less and less results.

Conclusion
The reckless foreign policy pushed by the Biden Administration has weakened our standing and emboldened our enemies. While scrambling to prevent an all-out war that would see Biden mired in the Middle East in a critical election year, Blinken’s frantic shuttle diplomacy, rather than steadily leading the region to stability, is looking more like an embarrassing scramble to plug the holes of a sinking ship.
