WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE U.S.
In light of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, people on the Left and Right are scurrying for answers. The Left, of course, wants to take away our 2nd amendment rights, thinking that getting rid of guns will solve the problem. They are ranting at Conservatives as if it’s our fault. The lunatic, Whoopi Goldberg, said she was so sick of Republicans — declaring that she would “punch somebody” if another GOP lawmaker offered condolences to victims’ families instead of backing gun control, or should I add Democratic gun removal? These are the same ones that were screaming about abortion rights a couple of weeks ago. Seems like they are confused. They support killing a child up to 9 months in the womb with a scalpel or suction tube but have a fit about someone killing with a gun. Aren’t they both humans with destiny and purpose?
When did politics become more important than the lives of people? Is there not a time to grieve and pray before we try to advance our policy? Even Pres. Biden wanted to chastise us about not standing up to the gun lobby and invoked the name of God at least 4 times, as if that made him a spokesperson for God. A Democratic candidate for governor of Texas interrupted the press conference attended by parents of those killed, shouting that Abbott, the present governor, was responsible while basically campaigning for election. The liberal Democrats are like a bunch of rats on a sinking ship grasping for anything that will give them life. I believe their reaction to this terrible act only reveals their fear and terror about the upcoming elections.
When did any bill or law make everything right? It is not laws, bills, or politics, it is people doing what is right. Laws are supposed to protect people, their freedoms, their health, and their economic prosperity from bad people. But, does this happen if the people themselves do not do their part? You can pass a speed limit law, but if people don’t follow the law, they can kill someone. It is against the law to drink too much and drive. Does that stop people? No. Do people really believe that making guns illegal means that people will all give up their guns? Or will the gang members and drug cartels give up their guns?
I truly have a hard time understanding why an 18 year-old should be allowed to purchase 2 assault weapons and 375 rounds of ammo. He is not hunting for rabbits, deer, quail, or pheasants. The problem here is the same for most unstable people…a breakdown in family life. This boy has no apparent father and mother is living with a boyfriend. There was no respect for the mother or the grandmother. He was bullied at school for his looks. He definitely had problems that no one addressed.
The breakdown in family brings, sometimes, irreparable results. God said that He hates divorce and yet our society has drifted far away from what a covenant marriage is about. Our society has become so self-focused that we have lost the ability to be patient, kind, not boastful or proud, or rude. We are easily angered and keep record of all wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. This, of course, comes from 1 Corinthians 13 which is God’s prescription for true love.
One way to stop this kind of violence is to return to a love for God and His word. I’m not talking about religion which leaves people dead and without hope in their hearts. I’m talking about a daily relationship with God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, however you see it and a daily commitment to be the best husband, wife, father, mother, family member, neighbor, co-worker or citizen you can be. We can make a difference if we are willing to humble ourselves, pray, and turn from our own evil ways.
