NO GREATER LOVE
The Bible tells us that there is no greater love than this: “to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) As I contemplate the recent loss of 5 service men and women, I not only grieve and pray for the families whose hearts are broken and lives changed forever, I marvel at each person’s willingness to put themselves in “harm’s way” for friends, family and country. There is something about that choice that is honorable and deserves special recognition.
Now, I am sure that when young people sign up for service they are not expecting to die, they are just expecting to serve. And yet, knowing the possibility, they still pursue their career. The value and honor of service is more profound than the possibility of death. This applies not only to the military, but also for the police and firefighters who wake up each day to the possibility of tragedy. We must continue to remind ourselves of the police and firefighters of 9/11 who ran toward the building while others ran away.
We need to continue to remember the soldiers that have given their lives in all our wars, and those that are still alive to recount the horrifying details of their experience. I am often sorrowed when attending Veteran’s Day celebrations to find so few veterans or citizens attending. I am reminded that the greatest civilizations of the past, Greece and Rome, erected arches or stone slabs to engrave the names of fallen soldiers, they held processions and often provided financial support for a fallen warrior’s family.
I am ashamed to see our veterans homeless, crippled, in pain mentally and physically, and left to make it on their own. I am angry when immigrants get better medical, financial, and housing assistance than veterans. How do we honor those who fought and put themselves between us and evil?

These days all we see are coffins rolled off a plane and perhaps an honor guard present and then nothing more. We probably don’t even know that there are special days honoring our policemen and women who were killed in the line of duty or firefighters who have lost their lives while rescuing people from the flames. CountryCitizens has decided to make a commitment to inform you of any annual event honoring those who have paid the ultimate price.

Let us not forget, that the scripture verse first mentioned were the words of Jesus to His disciples. These were to be our instructions for life. So, just as with the military, police, and firefighters we are called to lay down our life for our friends, family and country. Do we love our friends, family, country and Christ’s Kingdom enough to do that? We do it not for honor, glory, money or fame. We do it because of LOVE.

Galatians 6:2 encourages fellow believers to "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. As a community, we are bound together with the love of Christ. We exhibit that love through prayer for one another. Someone in our midst may be hurting, believing for a new job, seeking direction from God. When we come together in agreement for each other, we see God begin to work! We want to agree with you. We encourage our readers to let us know what we can all agree on for you. If you have a specific need that you would like us to pray for, let us know. The Word of God compels us to pray for one another in the community where we live. So agree with us as we pray for each other!
