Most of us were a little irritated about the Republicans inability to elect a Speaker. It seemed to go on and on and the Democrats and their media played it up. Many Republicans were embarrassed by the delay, but after a great deal of haggling it was done. It is hard to imagine how the Greeks were able to accomplish anything. I guess that’s why their direct democracy only lasted 2 generations.
The five day, 15 votes was not the longest wait. That would be the 34th Congress (1855-1857) which lasted 61 days and 133 votes. The fact that this Congress took place before the Civil War would explain the delay. The Congress was definitely divided over the issue of slavery. After Massachusetts Republican Senator Charles Sumner vehemently denounced pro-slavery Members, Democratic Representative Preston Brooks of South Carolina beat him senseless with a cane on the Senate Floor.

Fortunately, no one was attacked with a cane, but Rep Mike Rogers (Republican, Alabama), a McCarthy supporter, was watching Matt Gaetz ... who in part spearheaded the opposition to McCarthy and voted no. Rogers lost it, and walked to the row in which Gaetz was sitting and then lunged at him. Other reps tried to thwart an attack by grabbing Rogers by the chin and shoulders ... holding him back.
Obviously, there is division and hard feelings in the Republican Party. Knowing this, McCarthy had two months to get the votes together but was unable. We can only hope and pray that the House republicans can work together to get something positive done.
The Democrats were in 100% agreement with their speaker, but we should understand that they are pretty much in agreement with all of Pres. Biden’s policies of socialism, green policies, open borders, abortion, and disrespect for police and the military. Totalitarian control of public schools to include: CRT, LGBTQIA2S+, and transexual mutilation curriculum is their agenda and they want to do it without parental knowledge. They want to control what cars you buy, what stoves you use, what vax you take, and whether you choose to wear a mask or not. |
The Democrats do not represent our conservative views, but unfortunately the Republicans still have not been able to put aside their differences and be a “wall” against the totalitarian, socialistic plans of the Democrats. It seems very much like the 34th Congress when the Democrats were pro-slavery and the Republicans were anti-slavery. Still the same division but, funny how Republicans are called racists now by the racist Democratic Party of then. Hmmm.
