WHAT CAN WE BELIEVE?
We live in a world that is so full of lies, half-truths, schemes, and trickery that it is hard to know what to believe. We have media that is so divided and bias, that you always get two interpretations for every event that happens and neither side is willing to consider a different point of view. Newspapers, television, personal video only show what fits their agenda. Real life is cut, clipped and rearranged to become the story they want. What to do?
First, we must learn to read again and I don’t mean the headlines. Headlines can’t be the basis for our understanding. Read on to get details. If you are only listening or watching, don’t get caught in emotional tirades. Listen to those who are calm, rational, and have experience or education on the topic. Make an effort to consider both sides. |
Know your sources. Unfortunately, our media outlets are NOT UNBIASED! Some news sources are obviously liberal and support the Democratic Party agenda, while others are conservative and support the Republican Party agenda. This, of course, includes books as well. Read up on the author. Is the author qualified to teach you?
Remember that liberals, socialists, progressives and environmentalist are all about creating a New World Order today. Conservatives are not against change, but would rather take time to consider issues and failures of the past, and issues and conditions of today before making drastic changes for the future. Conservatives need to be able to reflect on the past, gain knowledge on issues today, and be able to carefully plan a new tomorrow. This takes discernment. It can be difficult to know if someone is lying to you, but if they make a habit of lying, fibbing, or exaggerating then they are suspect. Pres. Biden has become a perfect example of habitual lying. The biography that Mr. Biden tells includes having been a fierce civil rights activist who was repeatedly arrested. He has claimed to have been an award-winning student who earned three degrees. And when speaking on the hurricane-devastated island of Puerto Rico, he said he had been “raised in the Puerto Rican community at home, politically.” None of these things are true, so when he says that he knew nothing about having classified materials in his possession, he knew nothing about his son’s business deals with China and Ukraine, and he takes classified materials very seriously, do you believe that? |
President Trump didn’t actually lie about his education, but he had his lawyers threaten schools to not release information or be sued. He often used statistics that appeared to be inaccurate. Many lies were told about Trump, including collaborating with Russia, which was paid for by Hillary Clinton. This shows that if you have enough money, you create your own truth. Do we really believe that Jeffery Epstein, a sex trafficker for the rich and famous, really committed suicide when the prison cameras were off and the guards were asleep. What about Conrad Rich, John Ashe and on and on. One person’s truth is another person’s conspiracy and some people’s truth is simply fantasy. We want to believe the things that fit our views and are resistant to those that don’t. What to do? |
Understand that sin began with a lie. That’s what happened to Eve. Satan lied to her and caused her to doubt God. We suffer under the sin of lying. We don’t have to teach children to lie, but not to lie. Criminals are never guilty, its always someone else’s fault. People lie on their income taxes, lie about how much they make, lie just to look better, and eventually believe the lies they tell.
Satan is called “the father of lies” which should tell us that lies have to be banned from our mouth, mind and everyday life. Experts say they can tell when people lie by their body language: sweating, shaking, eye contact, etc. If we remove lies from our lives, we could more easily see lies in others. But, most importantly, we need wisdom. “If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5) Seek truth. Make it your priority. Follow the discernment of God. Be disciples of Christ who said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
