WHY COLLEGE SOCIALISM??
The disruption and chaos on our college campuses reveal disturbing signs that college students are certainly out of touch with history, economics and morality. They know little about the history of the Middle East, Israel, Palestine, pogroms, WWII, or colonization. They lack understanding of the difference in socialism, communism and capitalism. Unfortunately, they are unable to have empathy for the pain and suffering of others outside of the interest groups supported by left-wing professors. They have, in fact, been trained to deny truth and support and believe a lie.
These young people, who represent the best educated in the U.S., have been so programmed by socialistic teachers that they have turned from capitalism and are willing to lose the possibility of job opportunities for the sake of socialistic ideals. In fact, a new poll reveals 70% of millennials are likely to vote for a socialist candidate. |
Given the state of public higher education, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Students are gullible and moldable because they have little conviction and no foundation. Too often, public universities teach students to accept basic, shallow “knowledge” at face value. They are not trained to ask why this knowledge matters or how it influences the rest of their education or how it relates to higher principles.
Few professing college socialists would be able to tell you how the government would seize the means of production under a socialist economy or how property rights would be eliminated. But they don’t need to because Bernie Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez have already done that for them, packaging socialism in trendy new policies such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. |
Even fewer would be able to tell you the history of the Soviet Union or how socialism has historically affected the countries that have adopted it. The problem is simply this: They’re not learning. Higher education is becoming little more than an indoctrination camp.
These students are attempting to find meaning in an education that’s meaningless, and they’re eager to see change happen. And because they lack historical roots and a well-rounded foundation, they’re attracted to radical proposals and candidates that are just as idealistic as they are. Hundreds of Young Democratic Socialists of America clubs have popped up on college campuses over the past few years, and 36% of college students admitted they even view communism favorably. Unfortunately, students on campus don’t want to hear alternative ideas. They are resistant and even violent against people with opposing thoughts. This is supported by professors of our higher education institutions where freedom of thought is not promoted, but upholding socialistic indoctrination is required and encouraged. |
Human rights activist and former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov grew up under the Soviet system, and so he’s well-acquainted with socialism in practice. A couple of years back, he took to Facebook to take on American boosters of socialism:
“I’m enjoying the irony of American [Bernie] Sanders supporters lecturing me, a former Soviet citizen, on the glories of Socialism and what it really means! Socialism sounds great in speech soundbites and on Facebook, but please keep it there. In practice, it corrodes not only the economy but the human spirit itself, and the ambition and achievement that made modern capitalism possible and brought billions of people out of poverty…Income inequality is a huge problem, absolutely. But the idea that the solution is more government, more regulation, more debt, and less risk is dangerously absurd.”

Those who urge a shift to more socialist-style policies tend to point to places like Denmark or Norway—which are actually market economies rather than true bastions of socialism. But in the places adhering to a purer form of socialism—the Cubas and Venezuelas of the world—suffering and poverty abound. These countries, like the Soviet Union before them, are economic disasters and brutally repressive states.
Why are so many immigrants from Venezuela coming across the border today? They are escaping the disaster in their country because of socialism. They come here because, regardless of the problems, capitalism gives hope and opportunity to make a better life for yourself. They are protesting socialism and demanding democracy. Socialism has no hope because it doesn’t have God. The government becomes a god and has the responsibility to provide for all your needs. Government is a task master, controlling every aspect of your life and destroying the very thing that makes life worthwhile……individual purpose and vision. KLN |
