Colorado schools are closing. DPS will close 5 schools, and Jeffco voted to close 16 elementary schools throughout their district. Why? According to the article, it can be blamed on the shift in population to the suburbs, the move to charter schools and declining birth rates in the state.
Why do they move to charter schools? They aren’t happy with the product in the schools. They aren’t happy with what is being taught to their children in these schools. One parent comments at the end of the NewsBreak article,

These parents know that their children are being politicized, indoctrinated and influenced and they are pulling their kids. How are they being indoctrinated? They are being messaged by the newest craze in Western society.
Remember when you were in school and there was a new trend or fad that was happening and you just had to jump on the bandwagon? It might have been a new fashion, like the time you begged to borrow a card from the playing deck and a clothespin from the line outside for the spokes on your bicycle - those were the good ole days. Or how about rolling your jeans to be like everyone else in class, and if you didn’t do it, you were just “not with” the “in” crowd? All of those issues were harmless trends.
The new fad, trend, “in thing” should be much more concerning, because it is much more permanent and detrimental. With this new push, students are going to make a decision that is going to completely change the trajectory of their life and they are being influenced to do it because everyone else is doing it - by the SCHOOLS, not just their friends. That’s indoctrination.

The new push for social/emotional learning in schools includes the outlandish introduction of gender identity, and sexual exploration. Starting at a young age now, children are being exposed to elements of gender and racial ideologies that they are not emotionally equipped to filter and make sense of. Whether it’s “Drag Queen Story Time” or actual classroom instruction by school personnel about gender identity in grades K-3, parents are fed up with the lengths at which public schools are going in order to push their own agenda. Portland Oregon’s elementary curriculum is obscene and completely inappropriate for young children to learn. Students should be spending less time learning about pronouns and identifying gender vocabulary, and more time on reading and math. None of these elements being taught have done more than causing confusion.

The most distressing elements surrounding this particular push to question sexuality, establish pronouns, grapple with gender fluidity and spend time contemplating mutilating their bodies are many times not reversible. The mental, emotional and physical aftermath of young teens wanting to “identify” as something or someone else, is just a fad or trend, that WILL eventually fall out of popularity, and they can’t just be erased. You can’t undo the hurt that a young person can cause to their own bodies. Take Chloe Cole, for instance. She was influenced at school by teachers and friends to pursue gender reassignment surgery. She is now suing Kaiser and other officials for their negligence of allowing a minor to make decisions that she was not mentally or emotionally mature enough to make on her own. The state of California specifically, has postured themselves as a “haven” for school aged children to receive gender transitioning services. Chloe is among a number of teens who have stated that the adults in their lives did not give her solid advice about the long term consequences of her decisions to mutilate her body.
Dennis Prager, founder of PragerU, highlighted his disdain for the fact that these things are being introduced, and reinforced in the schools where our children attend. He believes that these lessons about sex, gender identity and the normalization of LGBTQ issues are undermining the parental authority and direction over our children. Watch the video in its entirety here.
Prager goes on to say, “The intent is not to harm kids, sex education should not be taught in school…and I knew about sex. Sex ed is NOT happening. Design to rip away innocence from children.”
Prager is among many leaders in the conservative movement, who advocates for parents to pull their students from public schools in order to shield them from this harmful messaging.

Getting involved locally:
There are many different ways that citizens can get involved in the educational process. Schools are asking for participation in many different ways. The schools along the corridor have made school board meetings readily available for the public to watch and participate in. Together, we can contribute time and attention to our young people. Below is a list of opportunities:
-Attend a board meeting (virtual): Bennett, Strasburg, Byers, Deer Trail
-Run for school board positions
-Write your local superintendent
